Kevin: Do you know how this works, Natalie?
Natalie: What is it¨
Kevin: A sifter.

A PRESENT FOR JULIA

Karl: Do you like it?
Julia: Yes, it’s great. Thank you very much.
Julia: Now, where does this go? Oh, yes. Here.
Julia: Oh, it has a radio too. How does it work?
Karl: There’s a switch. There.
Julia: It says ‘CD’ this way. And ‘radio’ that way.

SENDING A FAX

Rachel: How does it work?
Rita: It’s easy. I’ll show you. First, put the letter in here. Like this. OK?
Rita: Next, press this button with ‘TEL’.
Rachel: For ‘telephone’.
Rita: Then, type in the fax number. What is it?
Rachel: 0279 450767
Rita: Then, wait for the message ‘on line’. Here.
Rita: And that’s it. Got it?
Rachel: Yes. I think so. Can I try now?
Rita: Of course.

Baby: Mm! Food!
Mother: Come back. Stop!
Mother: Now listen to me. Never, never, never  go near that. Is that clear? Do you understand?
Baby: Yes, Mum. What does it do?
Mother: It kills mice.
Baby: How does it work?
Mother: I’ll show you. First, touch the cheese. Next, push down. Then, eat the cheese.

Karl: It’s cold in here. How do you turn on the heating?
Hotel button: There’s a thermostat here on the wall. I’ll turn it up.
Karl: There’s something wrong with the TV. It doesn’t work.
Hotel button: You have to press this button.  The light switches are here. This turns on your main light, and this turn on the bedside lights. And this is your radio and alarm clock. Will that be all, sir?
Karl: Yes, that’s fine, thanks.
